Pakistan is a country which produced legends over the years in many fields.Cricket has been a sports that has been loved the most in Pakistan, despite not being its national game (which is hockey). In the cricket history of Pakistan, one man will always be remembered for his glorious records and winning the world championship for Pakistan. He is none other than the great “Imran Khan”.

Imran Khan Niazi was born in October 5, 1962.He is a leading current Pakistani politician and a former cricketer and former Chancellor of University of Bradford. He has made the first cancer hospital in Pakistan named “Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital” in Lahore. He entered into politics after retiring from international cricket in early nintees.Being the brilliant Captain of Pakistan,he won the world cup for Pakistan in 1992. He won the hearts of millions of young people and still continues to grow his fans in and out of Paksitan.

Birth & Background

He was born in Lahore. His father’s name is Ikram Ullah Khan Niazi. His late mother’s name was Shaikat Khanum.He lived in Punjab and was the cousin of famous cricketers like Majid Khan and Javed Burki. He was a genius boy and also pretty shy in his youger age. He has four sisters. His received his education from England then studied at Aitchison college Lahore. He lives in his farmhouse located in Bani Gala.

Marriages  

Jemima Goldsmith was the first wife of Imran Khan in 1995.They married in England but their marriage went into crisis and ended in divorce in 2004. Then he got married to Reham Khan in 2015 and the couple celebrated their marriage in a traditional manner. But in October 22, 2015,they separated due to personal reasons.

Cricket Career

He started his career in 1970s. He played for Lahore and Oxford University.He was the medium pace bowler but gradually with time, his skills polished as an all rounder.He played hs first test in Birmingham in 1971. He played for Pakistan team in 1976-77 against Australia, Newzealand and West Indies. In 1982 he was the most powerful team member of Pakistan team. He played against Inda in 1983 and got 50 wickets in a year.During the World Cup Cricket in 1987, he captained Pakistan and got them through to the semi-finals. Unfortunately they lost to Australia in the semi-final in Lahore.

He made the second largest record after Ian Botham by securing 3000 runs and taking 300 wickets.His batting average was also second best 61.86 for playing at number six position.He played his last test match for Pakistan in January 1992 in Faisalabad Cricket Stadium against SiriLanka. He ended his career with 88 matches.He was the fist Pakistani bowler to take 362 wickets.In ODI’s,he scored 3709 runs in 175 matches. His best ODI bowling was 6 wickets for 14 runs. At the twilight of his career, he managed to win the only cricket world cup for Pakistan in 1992 in Australia.

Politics

His post retirement activities include forming his own political party in 1996 called “Pakistan Tehrik E Insaf”. The party did not get much recognition in the early years and Imran supported General Pervaiz Musharaf in 1999.  During 2000-2010 he struggled and work hard to bring his party Up in the politics. He faced major challenges  2005-2007 by facing many political opponents. His major breakthrough was his 2011 address in Lahore where more than 100.000 supporters of PTI came to listen to his speech.

On 23rd March 2013, he introduced a new concept called “New Pakistan” to the world. Then his party went on to become the second largest party of the country. He also lead the major revolution against the current government ny joining forces with Dr.Tahir Ul Qadri. They protested against the rigging in the elections of May 2013.

Awards

Imran khan received a number of awards in his cricket career. In 1983 he was awarded Prime Minister’s Pride of Performance Award. In 1985, he was awarded by Sussex Cricket Society.In 1990 he was the cricketer of the year. He was given the Pakistani Civil Award in 1992 Hilal-E-Imtiaz. In 2004 he received the lifetime achievement award. In 2011, he was given the Jinnah award. He was the Asia Society’s person of the year. He also took part in a number of Welfare activities durng his lifetime in Pakistan for the progress of common people.

This is not a complete list of his accomplishments but the legend continues as he pogress towards making an everlasting mark in the history of Pakistani Politics.
