Introduction

Inzamam ul Haq was a Pakistani cricketer and a top batsman of the world. Born in March 1970,he was called “Inzy” by team mates and commentators worldwide. He is the third highest run scorer in the test matches for Pakistan. He stand among best batsmen like Younis Khan, Javed Miandad and Majid Khan. He became famous in 1992 for his tremendous performance with bat in semi final and final. He played his final world cup in 2007 and also retired from captaincy.

Inzamam was born in Multan and he could also bowl part time left arm. He played his first test against Emgland in 1992 against England. His first ODI was against West Indies in 1991.He made consecutive centuries against Sirilanka in home grounds and impressed the selectors. He was not selected for the world cup 1992 and was heart broken. But injury of a senior player gave him the chance at the age of 22. He played in all matches in Australia and performed well against South Africa only. He was given run out against India controversially. He started slow and  had running problems in the field.Later on Imran Khan and Waseem Akram encouraged him and he finally made 60 runs in the semi final against Newzealand at Aukland. That was the turning point for his career. He won the game for Pakistan along with Javed Miandad. He against played brilliantly in Final against England to win the only world cup for Pakistan.

The Great 90s For Inzi

Inzamam scored most half centuries in one day Internationals along with Sachin Tehdulkar. He became the second batsman of world for scoring 10,000 runs in the one day cricket. He trounbled Curtly Amrose and Courtney Walsh in West Indies in 1993 series. He also smashed Australians all around in Australia. Ian Chappel and Bill Lawry referred him as fearless and care free champ. Inzamam. After 2007 world cup when Pakistan lost to Ireland, Inzimam was deeply critisised. His sluggish running between wickets always was an issue although he worked hard to improve it. He retired from ODI ccricket after playing against Zimbabwe.

Test Cricket Success

Inzimam was always a keen player in test matches. He performed well and played swing bowling well.Till 1997 he became the top test batsman for Pakistan. England tour of 1996 was best for Pakistan as he averaged 64 runs per innigs.In 2002 season, he made 329 runs against Newzealand in Gaddaffi Stadium Lahore and made everyone proud of him. He scored 100 runs also in his 100th test match. He was the fifth player to do so in the test history. Inzimam was unlucky not to break Javed Miandad test record for most runs as he fell 20 runs short in his last test match.

County Cricket

Inzamam was a great country player as well. At the age of 37 he played for Yorkshire county replacing Younis Khan. He also played Indian Cricket League ICL and scord 141 in 5 matches.Pakistani board paid him the highest salary for his services in cricket. Only Brian Lara got that much higher pay during his days. Imran Khan once said that ” I have never seen a talent like Inzamam, as he plays with perfect timing”. He got run out 40 times which is highest also for a batsman of his class.

He captained Pakistani team in 2007 world cup.In December 2012, he became the batting coach for Pakistan. He was also appointed the coach of Afghanistan Team in 2015 and this contract was extended till 2017.

Inzamam And Religion

Inzamam along with Saeed Anwar and Mushtaq Ahmed joined the preaching party (Tablighi Jamaat) and started preaching Islam in the world with his team. He grew a beard on his face.He was critisised for treating players well who had beards. BCP chairman Nasim Ashraf warned Inzamam for his behavior and public displays of his religious beliefs. Inzamam denied this accusation as he was supported by Bob Wolmer (late). The government of Pakistan gave him Sitara E Imtiaz for his life long performances in 2005.
