Introduction

Martina Navratilova is a retired October 18, 1956) is a retired Czech andAmerican tennis player and coach. In 2005 she was selected as the first her as the greatest female tennis player for the years 1965 through 2005.2005. Navratilova was World No. 1 for a total of 332 weeks in singles, and a record 237 weeks in doubles which is highest for any female in the history of game.She was a singles No. 1 seven times.She won 18 grand slam singles titles and reached Wimbledon singles finals 12 times for nine consecutive years from 1982 to 1990.

Early Life and Tennis Career

Martina was not American by birth. She was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia. She started playing with a tennis ball at the age of 4 when she hit it on the cement wall. Martina at the age of 15,  won the Czechoslovakia national tennis championship.championship. Navratilova won her first major singles title at Wimbledon in 1978. In 2008, Navratilova’s mother died of emphysema, aged 75. Navratilova has a sister, Jana and her grand mother was also a Tennis player.Navratilova won both Wimbledon and the French Open in 1982.  After losing in the fourth round of the first major event of 1983, the French Open, she captured the year’s three remaining major titles (the Australian Open)

Martina had become an American citizen by 1981. She gave an interview to Newyork Times Daily explaining her sexual orientation to the public which had become controversial due to some gossip.

During 1982, 1983, and 1984, Navratilova lost a total of only six singles matches. 1982 to 1986 was the most dominant unbroken spell in the professional era. She entered the 1984 Australian Open with a chance of winning all four titles in the same year.1985 through 1987, Navratilova reached the women’s singles final at all 11 major tournaments held during those three years.

Martina had her most extreme battles with Stefi Graph during late 80s. In 1987 she lost to Stephi Graph beat Martina in the Final of French Open.In 1988 Graph won all the major signles titles and had beaten Martina who was 31 year old at that time. martina had a single’s major victory in 1990 as she beat Zina Garisson to claim an all time record ninth time. At age 37 she reached the Wimbledon final she lost to Conchita Martinez. She was included in the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2000 after her retirement from tennis.

Post 2000 Doubles Career

She played in 2000 her first doubles match in 8 years. In 2003 she won the mixed round with three sets. She won the Australian Open for the third time and became the third player in the history of the game. She received a wild card in the game which was not appreciated.On July 6, 2006, Navratilova played her last career match at Wimbledon. She lost that match to Andy Ram and Vera Zvonareva. She had also lost her double match against China’s Yan Zie and Cheng Jie. Martina won her last double’s title in 2006 in Montreal Canada.She is still the great player who won each year at least one major tournament for 21 consecutive years.

In 1192 when she was 35 year old,  She played Jimmy Corners in the third battle of Sexes. She had a great serving capability. She could serve and volley.

Coaching Career

In 2014 she was paid it was announced that Navratilova had joined Agnieszka Radvanska as her coach.She could not keep her way with her for long due to the bad performance of Radwanska.

She received a national equality record in 2000. She was mostly vegetable lover but also started eating fish till 2006.She was the WTA player of the year in 1978,1979, 1982,1983, 1984,1985 and 1986. Tennis magazine also selected her as the greatest female tennis player between 1965 to 2005. She was named among the 30 legends of women’s Tennis. She also made some media performances with American Football player Art Mork and ABC dancing with the stars.Government of Paraguay released a stamp in 1986 with Maritna’s picture.
