Raaj Kumar (Indian Actor)

Raj Kumar was born in 8th October,1926. His full name was Kulbhusan Pandit, he was a legendary film actor and worked in many block buster movies in the 60s,70s,80s and 90s. Originally he was born in Loralai Balochistan in the reign of British India. He was 69 years old when he got Cancer and died peacefully on 3rd July 1996 in India. He was nominated for the Oscar award in the 1957 for the movie Mother India.His career was spread over four decades. In the late 1940s, he served the Indian police force as well in addition to the movie acting. He had one spouse called Gayatri 3 children Puru, Panini and Vasta vika.

Early Life

He was originally a Pakistani born in Balochistan. But he moved to Mumbai India in the late 1940s. There he served the Indian Police as a Sub Inspector. He went ahead to marry a woman Jennifer who was an air hostess by profession. He suddenly fell in love with her and they got together in a holy matrimony together. She was a nice young woman who decided to get converted into a Hindu lady after marrying Raj Kumar. After her conversion, she changed her name to Gayatri and lived with him until the end according to Hindu customs. They also had two sons and a daughter as mentioned above.

Movie Career

His first movie as an actor was Rangili.His most successful film was Mother India in 1957 in which he played the role of a coward husband of actress Nargis. His role was deeply appreciated as the movie represented the intensely realistic picture of Indian lower class. His other movies also went through great success like Paigham with Dilip Kumar. He worked with all the best heros of his time including Shashi kapoor, Dilip Kumar, Sunil Dutt and Ashok Kumar. His movies Waqt,Hamraz, Dil Ek Mandir and Heer Ranjha got very famous also due to his fantatic contribution. He also won a filmfare award for the film Dil Ek Mandir.

Movies like Lal Pathar in 1971 and Pakeezah in 1972 also helped him boost his image as a professional actor in the Indian Cinema. After having remarkable success in the 60s and 70s, he started acting in the movies where he chose to be a character actor. His Ek Nai Paheli (19840, Bulandi (1981), Kudrat (1981) and Marte Dam Tak (1987) revealed his intentions for his future roles. His last few movies were also quite intense and elevated his image as a super hero fighting for justice in his country. Those movies include Jung Baaz (1989), Police Aur Mujrim (1992), Saudagar (1991) and God & Gun (1995) which also resulted in becoming his last movie before death.Till death he remained active and acted in almost 60 movies to his credit.

Death

He developed a disease of throat cancer in his late 60s. He went through a Chemotherapy operation in the process of treatment and could not survive the battle due to damaged lungs and ribs as well. He will always be remembered as the legendary actor in the Indian Film Industry.
