Waqar Younis Maitla was born in 16 November 1961. He was the most successful and dangerous Pakistani right arm fast bowler. He was the greatest cricketer of all time as well. He has also He played 87 tests and 262 One day Internationals for Pakistan. He also captained Pakistan team along with Amir Sohail. Waqar was locally called “Bureywala Express” for his unique ability to reverse swing the ball.
This ball was his deadliest weapon around the world. He made this his own trademark in all continents and troubled legendary batsmen. Waqar was the bowling partner of Wasim Akram in the 90s. Together they were called two W’s. He took charge as a coach in 2010 after retirementin 2003. He remained out of cricket for some time but was called back by PCB to benefit from his experience. He resigned from coaching in 2011 for personal reasons.He served as the coach for IPL in 2013 season as well.
Waqar was born in Vehari Punjab. Born and raised in Bahalpur, he started ccricket in adolescentyears. Waqar married Dr Faryal who was a Pakistani Australian. They have a son and two daughters. Waqar also served as a commentator for Australian Television Nine Network and Ten Sports in UAE. His height is 6 feet exactly.
He started his career in 1988 for playing demestic cricket. Imran Khan and Wasim Akram were his best seniors who guided and supported him to become a legend for Paksitan. In 1989 he played his first test match against India. Sachin Tendulkar also made his debut in the same match. He was very quick in bowling and achieved a hat trick in One day Internationals in 1994 against Newzealand. He was on a hat trick many times in his career.
Waqar had some disputes with Wasim Akram in the early 2000 and he remained out of the team. Waqar was banned for ball tempering in 2000.In 2003 world cup matches, he was involved in more controversies. In April 2004 after his suspension from the team for poor world cup performance, he reitred from the cricket. He was still capable of playing more for Pakistan and retired early after spending 15 years in the ground.
He was appointed as a bowling coach for Pakistan in March 2006. He had his differences with captain Inzamam ul Haq during the coaching. So he was replaced by another coach for the time being until he decided to come back in 2009 again. He toured as coach for Pakistan to England and South Africa.Performance of Abdur Razzaq will not be forgiven in Abu Dhabi when he made 109 of 72 balls. Waqar polished Saeed Ajmal as he continued to destroy world batsmen in every match for Pakistan. In an interview Waqar said that “Saeed AJmal is natural, i cannot give him advice unless he want to listen to it”.
With his differences with captain Shahid Afridi, Waqar resigned from coach in 2011 and joined IPL in 2013. In May 2014 he was appointed as the Head Coach of Pakistani Team again for second time.
Waqar had a great bowling action but was told to correct it by ICC. He worked on it Wasim Akram and improved it. His best delivery was inswingers and outswingers. The master of reverse swing did a great job during his 15 years. His top speed was 153 km/hr which was fastest in the world. He was included in the list of Wisden Criketers of the World, In test matches he scored 1010 runs as well. He took over 350 wickets in ODI and holds the record for best strike rate for any bowler. He took 5 wickets 22 times in the test matches.
